October 23, 2009 at 7:45 p.m. ends Sunday October 25 11:30 a.m. Location: Dominican Retreat &
Conference Center, Route 7, Niskayuna. Storytelling: Mining the
Spiritual Gold Within
Our inner lives contain veins of gold, rich deep cavities of divine energy.
We find and mine those veins by looking within and speaking the life
experiences, favorite tales, poems, songs, and images we carry. We’ll do some
journaling, partner-telling, poem-reading, and sitting in silence to find key
memories or bits of word-wisdom. Storytelling is spiritual spelunking and it’s
fun! Bring a story or poem you’ve always loved, a family photo you treasure, a
keepsake or just your imagination. We’ll inspire each other as we share.
PRESENTER: Marni Gillard, freelance storyteller and former
Niskayuna teacher, is the author of Storyteller, Storyteacher: Discovering
the Power of Storytelling for Teaching and Living (Stenhouse). Marni offers
classes in exploring both folktales and memories for their wisdom.
$185.00 (age 65 & over-$170.00) includes meals, accommodations in a private
room, and program.

Tellabration News

(1)
The Saratoga Open Mic at Woodlawn Commons on Wed. Sept. 9; or
(2)
The Story Circle meeting on Tue. Sept 15.

who have told at a previous Tellabration can submit a tape by Sept. 10
to:
Kate
Dudding, 8 Sandalwood Drive, Clifton Park, NY 12065-2700.
2.
Marketing Ideas – it’s all of us making connections
A
Tellabration flyer is available on-line: www.storycircleatproctors.org/Tell
flyer7-22.pdfFlyers
printed on yellow paper are also available from Kate Dudding – please contact
her and let her know how many you want: 383-4620 or kate@katedudding.com
Immediately
begin marketing to groups of adults, since groups need time to plan their
events. The committee asks all Story Circle members to give a flyer to each
adult group they belong to, such as:
Senior centers; Groups at
places of worship; Red Hat groups; Book clubs; Friends of
libraries; Service groups
Ideally,
each member of Story Circle will contact five groups. If you are emailing
people, you can also refer them to our Tellabration web page: www.storycircleatproctors.org/tellabration.shtml 3. Things to be decided in
August:
A. Decide about refreshments. Several people said they missed having
refreshments last year. With Dee's help, Kate spoke with Margi at 8th Step. She
told Kate their very nice refreshments do NOT make money, but are part of the
8th Step experience. If we want to enhance the Tellabration experience, two
people need to volunteer to organize this.
B. Who will chair the following Tellabration activities:
Artists’ Table
Copy Editors
Discount Distributors (give out $2 bills to newcomers as they
enter the GE Theatre)
Door Prizes
Photographer
Refreshment Co-Chairs (if we decide to do this)
We already have the following volunteers:
Producers Joe Doolittle and Kate Dudding
Emcee
Karen Pillsworth
House Manager Kate Dudding
Program Design Kate Dudding
Publicity Kate
Dudding
There
will be a discussion on the above items via email. If you don’t use email and you
have opinions about the above items, please call Kate (518)383-4620 to share your
opinions. 4.
It’s time to start selling program ads. Ads typically bring in
$400 so the more we get, the more library programs can be underwritten. The
form to buy an ad is available from Kate and is also on the web site www.storycircleatproctors.org/Ad-Form-7-22-2009.pdf 5.
Commit to selling 10 tickets, either by buying 10 tickets at the
group rate ticket and reselling them, or referring folks. A full house is a
major success for supporting storytelling regionally which is a main Story
Circle goal.
6. Next committee meeting: Wed. Oct. 21, 5:00 pm BYO dinner to Guilderland
Library (before the Story Circle meeting)
See You Next Time
All
meetings are held from 7 to 9 p.m. on the 3rd Tuesday or Wednesday of the month
alternating between Tuesdays in odd numbered months at the William K. Sanford
Library and Wednesdays in even numbered months at the Guilderland Public
Library.
DIRECTIONS:

Guilderland, 1/2 mile west of Rte. 155 on the south side of Western Avenue. (August
19)
